“Noble Rot” has been a long tradition at Brown Brothers. John C. Brown was the first Australian winemaker to recognise botrytis mould in 1934. The grapes for the 2019 vintage were handpicked from the Milawa Vineyard that has been producing botrytis since the early 1960s.

Fresh lifted aromatics and classic botrytis characters like orange marmalade, citrus and honey, the complexity, richness and elegance of this wine make it a delicious partner to desserts as well as cheese platters.

2023 Sweet Wine of the Year, Halliday Wine Companion

Vineyard Region: King Valley
Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 10.5%
Colour: It has a bright, rich golden yellow colour.
Aroma: The nose has fresh lifted aromatics and classic botrytis characters like orange marmalade, citrus and honey.
Palate: All these aromas follow through to the palate which is concentrated and complex with a silky mouth feel. The high natural acidity balances the residual sweetness to provide a refreshingly clean finish.
Peak Drinking: Until 2030

Recommended food pairings: The complexity, richness and elegance of this wine make it a delicious partner to desserts such as vanilla bean and salted caramel semifreddo or a baked lemon cheesecake. It is also a perfect match with cheese platters – including strong flavoured blues and pungent washed rind styles, or with a rich paté at the start of a great meal.

Growing Conditions: TThis wine can be challenging to grow and to make however, there lies the beautiful contrast of this style. The right climatic conditions and the picking time are pivotal to the success. Fruit for the 2019 vintage was hand picked from mid April to early June, between 19 and 20 baumé with significant botrytis development..

Winemaking notes: The wine was bottled with an alcohol of 10.5% and a residual sugar level of 165g/L.

  1. 2023 Halliday Wine Companion

“Hand-picked botrytis-affected riesling fruit from King Valley, given 24 hours’ skin contact. Year after year, this wine is incredibly consistent in style and quality. Deep golden hues with the scent of dried apricot, orange marmalade, cumquat, orange peel and dried fig. The palate is dense and sticky, beautifully balanced and textural and deliciously layered in concentrated citrus. Stunning!”
